The Avalon East School Board was downsizing and they determined they didn't need two high schools (Br. Rice and Holy Heart) next to each other. Originally Rice was for boys and Heart was for girls, but not anymore. Br. Rice was set for closure and eventually become a Junior High, while the classes were split between Gonzaga and Heart. It was a big deal, people were going separate ways. The school was so cool that they had a medal ceremony near the end of the year and every student got a medal with Br. Rice High School and our crest on it. Ashley and many other Br. Ricers wore the medal they got that day during our graduation ceremony in Gonzaga two years later.
