Bergamais is the term used by the home wine making/wine kit industry for Beaujolais. Only wines actually made and bottled in the Beaujolais region of France can be called Beaujolais, even though Bergamais has the same grape and technique. There are many other examples of this in different home made wine kits.

heya, I am doing research on Beaujolais. Like you I like the wine. But, if you do further research like me you will find there's a lot of confusing information that there. Pinot Noir and Gamay are two varieties grown in Burgundy region, but they are not really similar. Furthermore, nothing grown in California that is labelled Gamay is at all like Beaujolais, but is rather a ralted clone to Pinot Noir. It gets confusing fast!
I'm also stymied by the word Bergamais. It seems to be a widely used synonym for Beaujolais but only used for Home Brewing Kits.
