I’ve been working on a Notch paper recently… it is very slow going. It takes forever to write a paragraph, and each sentence has at least 3 references, so it takes forever to write a sentence too, heh. I like how it’s going though - I write slowly, but it usually doesn’t need too much revision when I’m done. I said I’d try and have a first draft by Tuesday, but I don’t know if that will be possible. I’ll probably just have the receptor/ligand processing part done… it’s so much work! I have 57 references so far and I only have 3 double spaced pages written, heh. Such is the case with a review I suppose - this will be the most references I’ve ever had in a paper, even more than my thesis! I surpassed the number of references in my thesis in the CIHR grant assignment last semester, and I will pass that with this paper. Although it’s a lot of work, it’s really cool to see the story unfold, and I’m learning a lot. It was overwhelming at first because I knew hardly nothing about the subject and I had to write like I was an expert in it, but now that I’m focusing on one little bit at a time it’s more manageable. So, if I don’t post, it’s only because I am constantly having my nose to the grindstone… very tiring! I imagine I’ll rack up my sleep debt this week…

Went jogging with my HRM for the first time today - pretty nifty little device. My heart rate had a max of 187 (yikes! LOL) but was mostly around 160 bpm. I did a 20 minute program on the watch - I think I’ll like this little invention :)
It had trouble actually getting the correct signal at first - for example, it would say I had a 110 bpm heart rate when it was 65, but after a reset it seemed to work much better. It also worked better the more I sweat due to better conduction, so next time I’ll use salt water on the little conductive pads instead of normal water.
Oh yeh, I did a few ab workouts on the ball today, but nothing really worth mentioning, lol.

Last week we smelled a god aweful burning smell while trying to vacuum… since then our floors have gotten more and more gross, LOL. Our vacuum finally bite and choked on the dust. We got about 5 uses out of it… it worked so nicely at first… we got it second hand for $30, so it’s not too big of a loss… it was a DirtDevil TouchUp, so I don’t think it was meant for the use we put it through. It was more like a stick vac than a real vacuum. Anywho, we finally decided to get something decent - a “Bissell CleanView Power Trak Bagless Vacuum” - that’s a mouthful isn’t it? It has rave reviews though, so I look forward to clean floors! Right now it’s left Concord, ON on Jan 20… who knows where it is now, LOL. Hopefully it will get here soon!

I ordered my Dahle 550 today - a professional paper trimmer! Ah yes, I remember the days when I though paper trimmers were an unnecessary trifle… but they have elevated to essentials! Woo!

You have got to Check this out! It’s a Honda commercial where all the sound effects were done by a chorus of people - rain, puddle splashes, wipers, engine and window noises, you name it. Too cool!

We got a notice a few days ago to not open our windows because they were going to be cleaned - well, just now we heard some thumping outside and the guy was coming down on his ropes! I took a shot and said “Smile!” and he swung out from the building so I could get a picture in mid air! He wanted a copy of the picture, so I got his email address, lol. Unfortunately the first set of pics didn’t come out because he was backlit, so I went out a second time and took some with flash :D LOL. Now that’s something to scrapbook! LOL!

Not much eventful has happened here the last few days… you know how it goes… laundry, house cleaning, supper making, rat surgeries… and oh yeh, Lionel stubbed his toe yesterday! I don’t know how he did it, but he cracked off his toe nail about 1/3 of the way down on his left index toe - ouch! It looks painful =/ I drove him to class Tuesday night because he was hobbling, poor guy… he’s feeling a lot better today though, and no more limping :)
My heart rate monitor (HRM) came in the mail today! Yay! It’s soooo cool. It sets up a program for you and when you exercise it beeps to tell you to speed up or slow down to stay in your zone, and it has this cool timer thing. Let’s say you want to exercise for 20 minutes above a certain lower heart rate limit. Well, the clock only ticks down when you’re heart rate is high enough! So even if you run for 30 minutes, if you only had your heart rate over the low limit for 15 minutes you still have 5 more minutes to go! TO COOL! I thought it was broken when I first got it cause it said my resting heart rate was 100 (I was sitting down o.O), anyway, when I reset it it started taking the correct readings and now it’s 62 beats per minute sitting down - not bad, but could be better! So with my trusty HRM prodding me on, I’m hoping my exercise sessions become more efficient and my resting heart rate will get lower :) Combined with our new fun exercise ball (yes, exercise can be fun with that thing!) I’ll be in tip top shape in no time!… well, maybe 6 to 12 months, lol.
There’s a “Book Of Me” challenge going on at ScrapJazz now. I really want to start scrapping, but since I don’t have any pictures printed since coming here it’s a bit hard to do! So I’m going to get some printed the next time I’m at Costco and I think I’ll start the “Book Of Me.” The point of it is to let your descendants know all about you, not just the events in your life. For example, your dreams, your favorite color, childhood memories, thoughts about life, etc. It’s a cute idea, and a great opportunity ti use some funky supplies - I see a neon green and purple layout coming my way, hehe. I’ve ordered a “potluck” of paper off eBay so hopefully something better than my current Provocraft stuff will come - I’m having such a hard time creating with that! I’m also getting a Dahle 550 trimmer after becoming exasperated with my Fiskars one… it doesn’t cut straight and the blades are expensive to replace. The Dahle has a self-sharpening blade and always cuts straight, and the ladies on ScrapJazz say they’ve had it for 2 years and it still cuts as well as the day they bought it! Not bad!

So we went to Canadian Tire last night to pick up some mason jars and some plumbing tape so our Brita would stop leaking, and now our cupboards are organization central! When we were in Richmond we found 9 1.5L bottles for $13.99, and we picked up 12 1L bottles for $9.99 last night. Our bulk section items are no longer in bags thrown into the cupboard in a mess! Woo! So, like the complete dork I am, here’s what we did :D
| 1.5 L Mason Jars | 1 L Mason Jars |
| Whole Wheat Rotini Vegetable Rotini Whole Wheat Macaroni Basmati Rice Brown Rice Red Lentils Couscous Oatmeal & Flax Cereal Wheatlets |
Baking Soda Buckwheat Barley Ground Flax Seeds Raw Sunflower Seeds Green Lentils Mung Beans Navy Beans Black Beans Wild Rice Sushi Rice |
Which leaves us one more 1L bottle to grow :D It’s a little thing, cupboard organization, but when you have to dig through over-sized bags holding little amounts of everything then shove them all back in the cupboard it can get annoying… our hunt for canisters was ok, but they didn’t seal very well and they were too expensive to buy a lot of. When we were at Lionel’s parents house Linda showed us how she used mason jars to store things and now I will never go back!!
Tue 10 Jan 2006
Well, this morning Lionel and I did it! I don’t’ have to be into the lab until 10am so we got up early, had a light snack, and then went for a jog along University Avenue until we reached the University gates where University changes into 10th, then we walked back. It was the first time my new sneakers touched outside ground, LOL. And the worst thing was that it was muddy! So many puddles *sigh* - but the air was clean and crisp, and it was nice to run outside :)
