Genetics assignment is almost done! It WILL be finished tonight, that’s my goal. Of course my predictions of yesterday have come true - I am incredibly sleepy now and could use a nap, heh.

Well, after adding some things to the “Internet Funnies” and running through my favorite ebay searches, I think I am tired enough to sleep now. Of course, I have to get up in 7.5 hours and the cycle will begin anew! The good thing is I have very little left to do on my genetics assignment, so once that’s all cleared up I’ll get crackin’ on the CIHR now that my abstract has been approved :)
Tue 29 Nov 2005
I’m so tired in the mornings and in the middle of the day, but come 9pm I just wake right up - like right now I was just lying in bed for an hour thinking about stuff. I know I should try to sleep, I need to sleep if I’m going to be able to function tomorrow, but I just can’t! It’s so frustrating! I usually have to stay up until I’m exhausted to sleep at night. I should just take a nap in the middle of the day and then go to bed around 3am and then get up for school, heh. I can’t wait until I don’t have classes anymore so I can function on my own schedule!
One cool thing about lying in the dark for an hour though is that I’m using my monitor with the brightness setting on 0, lol. It’ll be cool to see how dark it is tomorrow morning when my eyes aren’t dark adjusted anymore :)

* first_snow/ NOT FOUND *
Well, this was our first Vancouver snowfall! I photoshopped the pictures a bit since I had to wait for my batteries to charge before I could take a picture, but I think they turned out ok! Apparently we’re only supposed to get 14 days of snow here, so I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. They don’t salt the sidewalks though… they put sand everywhere, so my morning jog to class is a bit difficult, lol.

The problem with me and school work is that I’ve worked myself up to courses being “over” after undergrad, and I haven’t yet gotten into the swing of them not being over, heh. It’s like, I want to do anything interesting except the assignment I have to work on… until I’m too tired to resist it any longer and I work and work through the night on it. Sam’s right - it’s a matter of breaking your will and accepting the inevitable, heh - and right now, the CIHR is inevitable!!
Sat 26 Nov 2005
Talked to Dr. Vincent on Friday and it looks like I’ll be able to change my CIHR topic. They lost my original summary so that helped, lol. I was going to do it on APP transport, but now I’m going to do it on BACE2. The grant isn’t supposed to be related to your current work, and it is very related to Dr. Song’s work, but for an argument to that my background was in chromatography and histochemistry in brain slices, and so far I’ve only worked in the Rankin lab and the Christie lab, and besides the MSFHR application I haven’t really dealt with Dr. Song’s work too much, and I’ve never done any sort of genetics experiments, so it should be good to go.

Well, looks like we won’t be heading to get some stuff done tomorrow
We had originally planned to pick up Steve’s Christmas present, my card making supplies, and some stuff for the apartment from Zellers - maybe even some costco blueberries - but looks like it’ll be another weekend of work. Lionel has to finish his assignments which are due Wednesday because then he’s getting his very important take home final. I’m working on my CIHR write up for Monday, Dec 5 (25%) and my genetics assignment for Friday, Dec 2 (20%)… then I have a journal critique on Dec 7 (5%) and my final genetics paper on Dec 21 (45%) :( I was looking forward to getting my paper so I could work on cards as a little creative break rather than spending my time surfing ScrapJazz, heh. Maybe we’ll get to go on Dec 6 :(

I am SO addicted to ebay - it’s gross, lol. But you know what? I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, and I don’t have time to go out for dinner/movies, or to even rent a movie for that matter, lol, so if surfing ebay and buying stamps makes me happy and stops me from going insane with school work, I will do it! :D
I was into foam stamps, but now I’m really into clear acrylic stamps - easier to store.
Ok, Ok, I admit… it’s not just stamps, tee hee. Everything I get off ebay is so versatile though! Like, it can be used on ANYTHING! Like pigment ink, which is soft, permanent, acid free, and lies on top of the paper, and dye ink, which sinks into the paper and gives it a old, stained look, but can fade over time, and CHALK INK!, which is velvety soft when it goes on, and is permanent when heat set… *sigh* These go with the stamps of course :D I also just realized that the glue sticks I was using in my scrapbooks, while acid free, don’t stay stuck over time :| So now I’m getting the Xyron 150 (a sticker maker which can take items up to 1.5″ wide) and some tombo tape runner - both permanent solutions!
For Christmas Lionel is getting me some prismacolor pencils (I am to find them on ebay, fun fun!)! Not just any pencils folks, but the BEST art pencils available - soft, thick core, waterproof, permanent, and of course, acid free. They come in this cool tin set and you get free verithin’s with it, which are thinner, harder versions for details, and also a free sketch kit (I’ll give this to Lionel). But in any case, it costs like $180 CDN to get it in Canada, but only $50 US on ebay!! W00t! Now, see why I love it? I’m a die-hard for bargains, hehe.
We’re heading to Michael’s on Saturday to pick up some Christmas paper to make Christmas cards - I hope my letter stamps get here in time! So exciting! If this neuroscience thing doesn’t work out (although I know it will, lol) I may very well get a job in crafts, lol.

This is awesome! I just used googlebar spell check on the last two posts - it works just like in gmail! You can even add to the dictionary! Too cool! (I’m a horrible typist/speller, hehe).

I finally have a great technique to use on my genetics paper! It’s gonna rock. Too bad I can’t use it on my CIHR assignment too… hehe. Or maybe I can, I’ll have to talk to Tetzlaff… But in either case I’m really excited about my ideas! It concerns Alzheimer’s Disease… but I’m already starting to pick up on the paranoia of someone stealing research ideas, LOL, so I won’t post it here - just letting you know that I’m very excited about it :) It’s so great to finally be doing what I want to do! So exciting! I’m such a dork, hehehe.
